Sit right down and you’ll hear a tale, the tale of a man called Jayne...

Jayne Cobb and Robin Hood were probably never meant to exist in the same universe together. But the wonderful world of Firefly allows us to see a world where Jayne is a folk hero. As Dr. Tam so aptly states, “this must be what going mad feels like”. Welcome to the disturbing world of Canton.

Much is shared about the world of Canton. This planet really stinks, home to a number of workers whose sole occupation lies in mining mud. And they also suffer the mad delusion that Jayne is a good natured criminal with a heart of gold.

Speaking of possibly mad delusions, things start to heat up between Kaylee and Simon. It’s fun watching their two different worlds collide in juvenile passion and confusion.

Simon's sister River and Book share a wonderful interaction. With his hair out of his pony tail, the shepherd appears to be going for the Albert-Einstein-on-a-bad-hair-day look. River gets a good look at him and begins screaming uncontrollably. I admit, I was a little afraid myself.

River has finally found the good book. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get the story to make sense. “Bible was broken. Contradictions, false logistics, doesn't make sense,” River states. So she takes it upon herself to ‘fix’ Book’s bible. Her efforts include a bold attempt to integrate non-progressionary evolution with God's creation of Eden. Bold thoughts from a woman that has spent most of her onscreen time cowering in fear.

This episode doesn’t go a long way toward the overall plot of Firefly, but we do get a better look at some of the characters. Book has the opportunity to explain his faith to River. In turn, she has the opportunity to ignore aforementioned explanation and rewrite the Bible. Jayne is revealed to be exactly the person we though he was, but with strong enough virtue to try and cast down misconceptions about his intentions.

Notable Malcolm quote:

-“It's my estimation that every man that ever got a statue made of em was one kind of son of a bitch or another. It ain't about you, it's about what they need.”

The adventures continue next week, which promise to start developing the heavy continuity that Whedon favors. After a two week delay between the last two episodes I’m ready for some more Firefly and soon. This must be what being impatient feels like.
